This modern J2X Allard was built by Elite Enterprises. They were a company that was owned by Gerald Knapp and formed in 1969 in Cokato Minnesota. The company produced a variety of handcrafted cars. Their cars were extremely well built, and Walt Disney even purchased several of Elite Enterprises’ Laser 917s for the movie “The Love Bug goes to Monte Carlo.”
In March of 1982, a decision was made to proceed with a project that had been planned for five years, this car would be a replica of the J2X Allard race car of the early 1950s. Work progressed under the direct supervision of Gerald Knapp. The body and chassis were ready for release in November, and the first JX2 was delivered on December 2nd, 1982. It is believed that a total of 10 Elite Enterprises J2Xs were built.
Plaques on the car indicate that this car was not finally assembled until 2009. It is outfitted with a healthy Chevy 350 cid engine and automatic transmission. The valve covers and other ancillaries are all badged “Allard.” This machine runs and sounds as good as it looks. The new owner will undoubtedly have a lot of fun turning heads in this modern racing machine.
